Something I remember when I was in Kokhanok was that elders from Anchorage would still fly in and pick berries. Literally filling in the zip-loc bags to the point that the edges would burst. They would be there with GPS and wearing kuspuks; it was reassuring to know that some of the old ways were still alive and well, even if blended with new ways.

I liked your idea on using the kids birthday moon phase to start an investigation on astronomy and it lets them explore what was going on when they were born.
